In 1970
Keith James Russel and Ian Clifford Garbutt had a business
idea of importing specialist North American Indian moccasins
to the UK market. The idea proved to be a good one and putting
together the two middle names of the two partners Clifford
James was born. The footwear was extremely comfortable and
it became clear that British public needed comfortable footwear
at value for money prices.
The business started to gain a very good reputation and
by 1987 sales grew to a then record 130,000 pairs generated
from a small 8 page catalogue. It was clear that the formula
of quality, value and good customer service was a winning
one. |
